fall dahlias
I tried out some dahlia bulbs this summer and they didn't bloom all that much this summer, it was either too hot or dry or windy or who knows.... but finally this fall as it cooled and rained and rained, the start creeping up and putting out buds. they are very straggly and need a lot of staking. As you can see, in this bed they went all over the yucca plant which I kinda like the way it supports the stems. I may try to do it again next summer so that there is something blooming in the fall once everything else is finished.

things blooming in the garden today
on the left is "midnight smoke rings", and then a red throwaway seedling from Mrs. Henry, and then a creamy colored seedling on the right.
left is Princess Otahki from Niswonger, and then Siloam Andrew Trotter, a veiw of my fence and a stargazer lily.
I'm really pleased with the leafy stuff in this bed. the purple heart, ,copper coleus, and at the bottom is a grean and yellow amaranthus I grew from seed.

siloam copper kettle
I' have yet to get really good blooms out of this plant, a lot of times most of the buds will shrivel and never bloom, and them randomly there will be a bud actually bloom. very tempermental, and I keep trying it in different places in the yard. I"m not sure if I can get it to pollenate anything either and it's never thrown out a seed pod either, but on the days it does bloom, completely worth it. it's still my favorite daylily
