spring break garden...

if you have any columbine coming up this spring, don't miss the unfurling swirl of the leaves as they open...the 3rd pick above is of the new addition of thalictrum to the yard this year....BELOW are pics of daffodils and the last pic shows the nice vase shape of the Allium leaves coming forth.

more pics BELOW... show the sedum that I really like in the garden just for the light green color, this one doesn't have very showy blooms plus it always grows tall and falls over.. the other pics below show the north garden and a closeup of a poppy, also new to the garden this year. :)

trees

I'm shopping trees this winter.... plans for spring. I have some shade in the back and I figure if I can just keep it watered and not stay so dry dry dry all summer, maybe a few trees will have a shot. I had my eye on a coral bark Japanese Maple at the home and garden show a few weeks ago. and then I came across a pawpaw tree in a catalog and thought that'd be nice to try also.
Only other tree I'd like to try and grow if I had a place to put it is a Japanese Persimmon tree.
Another tree on my consider list is a Redbud tree, the variety "Pauline Lily."

the mum grew in nicely this fall... I'll be more careful with the red amaranthus next season. It really took over the front bed, but at least it was in the back as an anchor to color.

the dahlia's began to bloom again once it cooled off. Also end of October I had a rebloom on this one daylily. I was also pleased with the blue salvia in bloom next to the orange lion's mane.

bloom on a proliferation...

I thought this was interesting. this was from late July. A prolif on "Midnight Grape Splash" that had a proliferation that put out a scape and bloomed....

I've been really happy with the purple heart, chocolate euphorbia, and artemisia on the north side of the house among the daylilies. a Dahlia bloom

some yellow topped amaranthus and surprise lilies (lycoris), and next too many daylily seedlings that hopefully I can see something in 2 years fun and new.. .:)

What is this?

It's not a perennial, I had to bring it in last winter and I'm hoping to do the same this year to see if I can get an even nicer bigger plant next season. I bought this at a roadside nursery in N OKC. But I'd like to know what the name is possibly.......hmmm Anyone have one or recognize???

so hot, but what's new...

well, either the daylilies were blooming less or it was getting too hot to get up and photograph anything in the yard....so not posts lately. my garden is doing well, I'm just watering it either late evenings or more likely in the mornings before breakfast... soon I'll have soaker hoses out to turn on since I'll be busy with back to school schedule here in the next couple weeks. Things can remian pretty hot here in OKC whether it's August or September... I have been watering everything enough to keep them living and green, and will be excited to see what blooms once the weather cools back down some in the daytime... pics coming soon...
